Erik,

fabulous call on ANF this week, i went long mon. and exited wtih a nice profit before the close thurs. as it looks now, the earnings or lack of them will hit the stock hard.

Erik, ANF's earning is out. (NYSE: ANF - News) today reported unaudited first quarter results which reflected a net loss of $26.8 million and a net loss per basic and diluted share of $0.31 for the thirteen weeks ended May 2, 2009
dbu59 (4:06:21 AM): "The first quarter was clearly a difficult one for us. With a challenging economic environment, the consumer continues to show a reluctance to spend on premium brands; a price consciousness dictating shopping habits unlike anything I have ever seen. We believe this is a temporary phenomenon but will approach the current conditions with a conservative mindset until we see a clear improvement. This year will be a transitional year for us as we continue to focus our efforts on laying the groundwork for our long term success and prosperity by protecting our brands, preserving cash and pursuing our international growth opportunities."
Net sales for the thirteen weeks ended May 2, 2009 decreased 24%
bottom line: loss of 31 cents. expected loss 14 cents. They announced there would also be a significant one time charge for restructuring one of their business lines, that charge is still being calculated and will be announced at a later time overall report not so good. gloomy
trading low $25 after announcement.

Do you still have the target for ANF at $29? It got upgraded from hold to buy yesterday. Feedback appreciated.

I didn't call ANF over earnings, I called it into earnings.

(sell Thurs by the close, dont "game" the earnings!!)

THAT is ezactly why, gaming earning is a suckers trade.
Playing the run up (short covering) the days prior to it, is not.


I dont see any reason at all to own ANF long anymore, no cataylst.

Friday. we may actually have a very narrow trading range today. I guess
that it's best to keep the cash position and wait for right opportunity.

AEM will follow the dollar's movements (b/c of the gold-dollar inflation/deflation relationship). Right now dollar is (short term) set to recover so I agree w/you on that trade. I got burned on AEM puts last time though. This time I'll try further out of the month expirations instead of front month.


I added a copper short instead of gold.
